1) We report here 13 mutations in the fused in sarcoma/translated in liposarcoma (FUS/TLS) gene on chromosome 16 that were specific for familial ALS. (Sci09-0227; 323: 1205)
第16番染色体上のFUS/TLS遺伝子に13種の変異を見つけたので報告する、というのです。前回の例文からおわかりのように、We report here that --- というフレーズは、近年、Here we show that--- (「英医論作」Chapter 1, Lesson 6）に劣らず、非常に良く使われています。上記の例文は「that名詞節」ではなく名詞句ですが、この形も多いようです。
2) In a screen for endogenous tumor-associated T cell responses in a primary mouse model of prostatic adenocarcinoma, we identified a naturally arising CD8+ T cell response that is reactive to a peptide derived from histone H4. (Sci08-0111; 319, 215)
前立腺がんのマウスモデルを用いて、T細胞応答のスクリーニングを行ったところ、特定の応答を見つけた、と言う実験結果です。we が主語なので、難なく応用できますね。A screen identified --- と言う構文も実際にありますよ。例文3)がそうです。
3) A high-throughput functional genomics screen identified G protein?coupled receptor 3 (GPR3), a constitutively active orphan G protein-coupled receptor, as a modulator of amyloid-β production. Overexpression of GPR3 stimulated amyloid-β production, whereas genetic ablation of GPR3 prevented accumulation of the amyloid-β peptide in vitro and in an Alzheimer's disease mouse model. ここではさらに、overexpression させた場合は---した、genetic ablationさせた場合は---した、
とwhereasを用いて対比させています。対比は、in contrast／conversely／but／while／unlikeなどを使っても表現できます。Abstractでは字数制限の面からも、on the other hand は控えましょう。
4) (DMT acts as a hallucinogen, but its receptor target has been unclear.) DMT bound to sigma-1 receptors and inhibited voltage-gated sodium ion (Na+) channels in both native cardiac myocytes and heterologous cells that express sigma-1 receptors. (Sci09-0213; 323:934)
ここでは実験の方法には言及せず、結合した、阻害したと結果のみが単純に記載されています。これでいいのですね。それではまた来月。
